BIO:
Kun Zhao is an associate professor at Shandong University. Kun earned her Ph.D. in English Curriculum and Teaching Methodology from Shanghai Normal University, her M.A. and B.A. both in English Linguistics from Shandong University at Weihai. Her research and teaching interests are in applied linguistics and foreign languages education policy. She is the author of Language in Action: a SETT-based Research on China’s College English Teachers’ Classroom Interactive Discourses. She has published some essays on international conferences and domestic journals. Her essays have dealt with topics such as college English teachers’ professional development, Teacher Talk, and English as a second language education.
She has taught College English, Pragmatics and Stylistics at School of Translation Studies, Shandong University since 2001. The philosophy rooted in her teaching is that all students are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. Teachers are supposed to provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas, take risks and meet their full potential. For this core idea that drives her teaching practice, she is widely welcomed by her students and thus earns her one of the most popular teachers on campus.
