On December 15th, invited by the School of Translation Studies, Professor Zhang Wenxiang from the School of Culture and Communication, Professor Li Dongliang, and Lecturer Huang Xiuguo from the School of Translation Studies respectively made academic reports, with the themes of “the Research Methods of Journalism and Communication and Project Application” “Experience in Scientific Research” and “Interpretation of Illness Metaphor in Wuthering Heights” at Room 316 of Journalism and Foreign Language Building. Li Ke, associate dean of the School of Translation Studies, presided over the forum.
Professor Zhang introduced his report from three aspects, including the research methods of Journalism and Communication, the situation of the subject’s development in China, and the project application in this area. As for the first respect, Professor Zhang introduced different schools with their own features. Professor Zhang pointed out that the rapid development of modern social media accelerated Journalism and Communication’s making great progress with continuous new topics. In the end, Professor gave suggestions on how to succeed in project application in this area.
Professor Li Dongliang started his report with two Chinese idioms to state the importance of doing research. From the perspective of Professor Li, reading was the prerequisite, and then he talked about his own way of reading. In the next part, he introduced his various essays with different focuses. He indicated that we could not be confined to our own area, we should conduct the research by combining our area with other relevant ones.
Lecturer Huang Xiuguo pointed out that the illness metaphor equipped illness with moral, political, and social meanings, and the illness metaphor in Wuthering Heights were changeable. In the first place, she introduced the concept of “illness metaphor”, then she stated the romantic metaphor of tuberculosis, the other metaphor of disease, and the resistant metaphor of hysteria with concrete examples in the novel.
Three teachers offered us an academic feast with vivid expressions and abundant examples, which could help us to broaden our horizons and conduct the research in a more comprehensive way.
